The second attempt is not a second batch.

A timeout, a dropped connection, a second click on a slow morning: a retry replays the same submission rather than writing a new one. The attempts climb and the ledger does not move, which is the only version of this claim worth making, because the failure it protects against is a client billed twice.

What arrives, and where.

Named by what turns up at the far end rather than by what we send. A practice does not care that an API was called; it cares whether a Bill or a draft journal is sitting in the ledger it already keeps.

BTMS is reached through a connector on the client’s own network. The connection is outbound only, so there is no inbound port and nothing to expose.
